Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of June
Following the joyful Jubilee and Coronation this is another opportunity for the Churn Valley Community to come together; this time in celebration of 100 years since the hall was built to re-engage the Churn Valley communities following the loses of W.W.1 The hall has served as the focal meeting place for national and local celebrations for a century. It has hosted parties, dances, entertainments, clubs, classes, remembrance, school dinners ...an endless list encompassing the evolving life of a community.
Outline of Centenary Weekend - MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW SOON.
Saturday June 7th 10.30 am - 5 pm (7.30 pm for the Gala)
• The hall will be open all day with a local memorabilia and history exhibition; various stalls and light refreshments.
• There will be a flower competition and exhibition in the church both Saturday and Sunday, the judging taking place on the Saturday morning.
• Children's games and a Dog Show will take place Saturday afternoon
• There will be a gala evening with local talent on show with supper and the bar will be open on Saturday evening. This is not a competition, it's a celebration of the talent amongst us! We already have a compare, singer, dancer, and comedy sketch.
Sunday June 8th 10.30 am - 5 pm
• The hall will be open all day with a local memorabilia and history exhibition; various stalls and light refreshments.
• There will be a flower exhibition in the church Sunday (the competition and judging will be on Saturday)
We need further acts for variety so please contact Cathy Martin with suggestions of hidden talent in our community. (07748914879).
Further details as they emerge will be included in the April/May/June editions of the Churn News. A permanent commemoration is planned for the front of the Hall. Railings will be crafted and installed above the retaining wall (which will be repaired) for both safety and aesthetics. The committee are keen to plant a 20 metre remembrance rose hedge alongside the railings, which will enhance the hall and be an attractive feature to the village entrance. To enable us to purchase 25 hardy shrub roses, we need to generate funds and are asking generous individuals and businesses in the community to sponsor a rose at £30 each. If you would like to sponsor a rose, please contact Cathy Martin before 1st April so that the roses can be purchased and planted before June.
Thank you in anticipation.
