The Village Hall is 100 years old! Please click to view our celebration plans
Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th June 2025
Following the recent success of the Jubilee and Coronation celebrations, please come and support the activities planned to celebrate 100 years since the hall was first opened for the use of residents within North Cerney and neighbouring areas.
Members of the community worked together to raise funds to build the hall on land bequeathed by the then Earl Bathurst; this in response to a government appeal to build halls to ‘Build Back Communities’ which had been fractured when so many husbands, fathers and sons did not return from WW1.
For the last centaury the Village Hall has served as the focal point for both local and national celebrations. It has hosted a variety of events including parties, dances, shows, entertainments, clubs, classes, remembrance events, school dinners and many more... an almost endless list, encompassing the evolving life of our community.
If you can help with refreshments, stewarding or parking etc. during the weekend please text or call Kathy on 07881 511 820 or email kathykerr-rettie@hotmail.co.uk.

Exhibition and Memoribilia Information:
John Ewbank has worked tirelessly researching the backgrounds of the local men who are listed on the hall’s Memorial Plaque and also the hall’s history. The building has served the community well over the years with many phases, once being able to afford a full-time caretaker due to its use as the school assembly, and dinner hall; a playgroup etc. with the WI, British Legion, Choir, Drama group and others vying for evening slots. It continues to be a valuable space where local organisations can meet and for friend and family to celebrate and be entertained.

Flower Festival at The Church:
Regrettably the flower festival had to be cancelled, but the Church will be open and visitors are welcome.
The hall belongs to you, members of the Churn Valley Communities and has to be managed and maintained by members of the community if it is to continue for another 100 years.
Did you know that there is evidence to prove that people who participate in community events and volunteer live longer!
If you can help with refreshments, stewarding or parking etc. during the Centenary Weekend Please text or call Kathy on 07881511820 or email kathykerr-rettie@hotmail.co.uk.
A permanent commemoration is planned for the front of the Hall. Railings will be crafted and installed above the retaining wall (which will be repaired) for both safety and aesthetics.
The committee are keen to plant a 20 metre remembrance rose hedge alongside the railings, which will enhance the hall and be an attractive feature to the village entrance. To enable us to purchase 25 hardy shrub roses, we need to generate funds and are asking generous individuals and businesses in the community to sponsor a rose at £30 each.
Thank you in anticipation.
